Myanmar strikes gold in Indonesian kickboxing

Hla Yin May won gold at the Asian Championships of the Indonesian martial art of Tarung Derajat on April 27.


The gold is her 2nd in case as she gathered top area when the sport was consisted of in the 2011 Jakarta Southeast Asian Games as a demo occasion.


Hla Yin May concealed Vietnamese opponent Vo Thi Kin Ngan 5-0 in the final of the 49kg event of the 2nd Tarung Derajat Asian

Myanmar sent 5 athletes, accompanied by authorities from the Myanmar Traditional Boxing Federation, to challenge for medals in Indonesia s form of traditional kickboxing.

After losing at the semi-final phase Sai Thiha, Tun Lin Aung and Thuzar Han gathered bronze to add to the nation’s medal haul.


The Tarung Derajat Federation still hold out hope of addition in future Southeast Asian Games, and held this tournament that included athletes from Malaysia, Indonesia, Myanmar, Thailand, Singapore, Vietnam, Laos and Philippines in Kuala Lumpur, the host city for the 2017 SEA Games.
